GOD vs Science

Is Science in opposition of or in support of God?

The stories of the bible are often viewed as fantasy, even by some of those who claim to believe. The idea held by many is that the laws of science are not in support of, and even oppose God. I have a very different view, I believe that without the order that God has established in this universe, science cannot exist. In the Apostle Paul’s letters to the Romans he states:

‘For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.’ Romans 1:20, This verse points to creation and nature as being evidence of God’s existence.

Nature as we know it is governed by laws, this can be defined as a physical law or a scientific generalization based upon empirical observation. This definition of a law of nature alone is what forces evolution to be accepted through faith since it cannot be directly observed and the scientific method cannot be carried out to prove it (a changing of 'kinds' between species has yet to be observed or identified). The same laws of nature that govern life on our planet govern a star thousands of light years away. These laws are constant and never changing, this is an important foundation for science. The scientific method incorporates testing your hypothesis, observing the results and replicating the study. If the same result occurs, then your hypothesis is proven and you have a scientific law. We all remember this from grade school correct? Why is this so important? What if the laws of nature could change based on location, or what if the laws of nature naturally changed over time? We wouldn’t have science or scientific law. The scientific method would be useless and we will fail to make progress by way of scientific knowledge and technology.

'...law of nature alone is what forces evolution to be accepted through faith since it cannot be directly observed and the scientific method cannot be carried out to prove it'

Luckily for us, everything is governed by a set of unchanging laws. And some of us are inexplicably born with the drive and the curiosity to test these laws and further the development of the human race. I believe just as Paul did when he wrote the first chapter of Romans that God reveals his intelligent design by creating a consistent set of laws that nature can never break no matter where in the universe you are. Scientists can explain how these laws work, but who can explain why they are in place and why they never change? Nature is mathematical…you’ll fall at the same rate, a reaction between two elements always yields the same result and the speed of light is always the same speed. The entire basis of being a scientist is having faith in the fact that the established order of nature will not change.
